What is this group about?
- Befriending Your Nervous System is a free and confidential group hosted by the Advocacy Center of Tompkins County.
- If you have ever wondered “why do my mind and body keep doing that?”, then this group is for you.
- We will explore how trauma and extreme stress impact the nervous system, how the nervous system orients towards safety and danger, and how to use this information to support coping.
Who is this group for?
- This group is Ithaca College students of any gender who identify as having survived any form of domestic or sexual violence, including childhood sexual abuse.
- You will get the most out of this group if you also have a therapist that you can continue to explore group themes with, however you can still participate in the group if you are not currently in therapy.
When and where is this group held?
- The group will meet in person from 3:30pm – 5:00pm on Thursday March 27, April 3, 10, and 17. The location will be shared with confirmed participants.
- We ask participants to prioritize attending all four sessions.
Why is this group only four sessions?
- This group is designed to be a short introduction to the material and to being in a group. If you decide group support is something you want more of, we can talk about other Advocacy Center offerings.
