April 2026 Awareness & Calendar of Events

April is packed to the brim with events and awareness days for the Advocacy Center. Check this page to keep track of what we will be doing throughout the month.

Awareness in April

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month and Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Within the month, we recognize Wear Blue Day for Child Abuse Prevention on April 1 and Denim Day for survivors of sexual assault on April 29. Join us in supporting those who have experienced child abuse or sexual violence by wearing your blue and denim on these days.

Events

Our Education Team will be present throughout community spaces this month, including the local college campuses, for the following events:

Community Events:

  • Greenstar Partners for Change Tabling | April 2 & April 7 | 10:00am-12:00pm | 770 Cascadilla St
    • All month – round up at any Greenstar location to support the Advocacy Center!
  • Kitchen Theatre play “be mean to me” | April 16-19 | 7:00pm
    • Shifting between ages 17 and 27, the play follows two young women as they grow up together and apart grappling with love, ambition, and the quiet cruelty that can exist inside closeness. Tender, funny, and heartbreaking, it captures how deeply we can hurt the people who know us best.

  • Protagonist Bookstore SAAM Panel | April 21 | 6:00pm-7:30pm | Dryden Center for Community – 9 E Main St Dryden, NY 13053
  • Take Back the Night | April 24 | 7:00pm-9:00pm | Ithaca Commons
    • Ithaca’s 47th annual TBTN joins people throughout Tompkins County to bear witness to harms that have been done and hold hope for a future without sexual and relationship violence.

  • Cayuga Lake Seido Karate Fundraiser tabling | April 30 | 6:00pm-7:00pm | 17 Ridge Rd, Lansing, NY
    • Annual fundraiser for the dojo – proceeds this year go to Advocacy Center and Hospicare

Campus Events:

  • Ithaca College Faces of Prevention Tabling | April 1 | 11:00am-1:00pm
    • An event for students to become familiar with prevention education and available resources
  • Ithaca College Red Flags & Real Talk SLI Program | April 10 | 12:00pm-1:00pm
    • Student Leadership Initiative invites students to participate in an interactive discussion about identifying the warning signs of unhealthy relationships
  • Cornell Denim Day info Tabling | April 22 | 12:15pm-1:15pm
    • Collaboration with IF/WHEN/HOW Reproductive Justice group at Cornell Law School to spread awareness about Denim Day
  • Cornell University Out of Darkness Tabling | April 26 | 11:00am-1:00pm
    • Organized by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention on college campuses nationwide every year. The Cornell Campus walk will consist of tabling from campus and local resources involved in mental and physical health, a speaking session from individuals involved in mental health work, and a walk around campus.
